Back in the past (with the pastoes), books and other stories were serialised chapter-by-chapter, bit-by-bit, in newspapers and periodicals long before they were collated together and made into a book.

Here in the present (the right-now times), we’re all stuck at home waiting out the novel Coronavirus. Seems like the perfect time to bring back serialised storytelling! Which is exactly what The Broken-Heart Brigade is: the serialised romcom of your dreams, maybe?

Here’s the deal: when you sign up as a subscriber to The Broken-Heart Brigade, you’ll get weekly installments of this brand-new fluffy, fun, fabulous romcom story sent straight to your email. Pretty neat, right?

Plus, while social-distancing measures are still in place anywhere in the colony (Australia), you can choose to sign up as a free subscriber or a paid subscriber and still get the same access to the same great content (on a weekly basis), because COVID sucks and mass underemployment sucks and some of us just need something nice once a week. If you’re able to support me with a paid subscription, great! If that’s not within your budget right now, pleased to have you here regardless.

Each story has beautiful illustrations created by artist and designer Kim Ritchie, and the project is entirely supported by our generous subscribers, the Melbourne City of Literature office and the City of Melbourne.

So, head over and sign up to receive weekly installments of this fun experimental project, and let’s all fall in love (maybe?) together!

The Broken Heart Brigade is made in Naarm (Melbourne), on stolen Wurundjeri land that was never ceded. Matilda pays respect to the rightful Aboriginal owners of the land on which she lives and works, and hopes the readers of her writing do too.
